Resumé

This article-based PhD dissertation explores how processes of in-ex-clusion are dynamically enacted within Danish primary schools through entangled material-discursive practices. Thinking with posthuman theory and agential realism, the concept of in-ex-clusion is introduced to emphasize the complex, dynamic processes of inclusion and exclusion, demonstrating how they mutually intra-act and co-constitute the processes of in-exclusion.

The dissertation engages with postqualitative inquiry in two Danish primary schools, staying with the mundane materialities and everyday routines of school life. It takes part in teachers’ practices—from classroom lessons to informal and professional conversations—while attuning to the intra-actions between humans, materials, and spaces. By experimenting with concepts such as thing-power, wonder, and getting lost, the dissertation explores how materialities and routines intra-act to stabilize and disturb boundaries of in-ex-clusion.

The dissertation includes two peer-reviewed articles and a contextualising analytical text. Together, they contribute to ongoing conversations about how inclusion and exclusion are enacted in schools as shifting, relational, and materially embedded practices. The dissertation ends with speculative questions that open toward alternative ways of thinking in-ex-clusion and the potential for otherwise.
